Published May 21, 2008 06:30 pm - P.M. UPDATE: Muskogee resident identified as crash victim A former Joplin, Mo., school teacher was identified as the woman who died in a collision between her car and a tractor-trailer rig on U.S. 69 just north of Oktaha on Tuesday night.
Virginia White, 79, of Muskogee was northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. 69, 0.3 mile north of the Oktaha exit at about 7:40 p.m., an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report stated. White’s 1996 Honda collided with a 2007 Peterbilt tractor-trailer rig driven by Christopher Whitehead of Stonewall, La. The OHP report stated Whitehead attempted to avoid the collision. He was not injured. Only Whitehead had his seat belt in use. The airbag deployed in White’s vehicle. Memorial services for White will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Fort Gibson National Cemetery under direction of Shipman Funeral Home and Crematory of Wagoner.
