Muskogee City Council’s Works and Finance Committees at a glance
At its regular meeting Tuesday, the Muskogee City Council’s Works and Finance Committees approved:
• An ordinance rezoning the property on the south side of Chandler Road between Eastpointe Road and the Muskogee Turnpike from Single-Family Residential to General Commercial. Construction of a funeral home is planned for the property.
• Replat of 4.65 acres in Eastwood Addition, also for planned construction of funeral home. Property is on the south side of Chandler Road between Eastpointe Road and the Muskogee Turnpike.
• Preliminary replat of East Ridge Addition, three lots on 7.6 acres, on the north side of Shawnee Avenue between Country Club and North 41st Street East. Construction of new offices for Security Alarms is planned for the site.
• Amending the Future Land Use Map on the north side of East Broadway between North F and North G streets from High-density Residential to Low-intensity Commercial.
• Rezoning the property on the north side of East Broadway between F and G streets from Multi-Family Residential to Office & Personal Service. Construction of parking lots for the VA Call Center is proposed for the site.
• Amending portable sign regulations.
• Receiving annual report from Convention and Tourism Department.
• Tabling until next month establishing guidelines for use of Channel 14, assigned to the city of Muskogee.
• Mutual fire assistance agreements with the fire volunteer fire departments at Porum, Brushy Mountain, Mountain View, Oktaha, Gooseneck Bend and Keefeton.
• Mutual police assistance agreements with Haskell, Warner and Braggs.
• Application of COPS Grant, applied for by the Muskogee Police Department and hiring three additional full-time certified officers for three years. Grant will provide complete salary and benefits. After three years, the city is obligated to hire the officers for one more year, said Police Chief Rex Eskridge.
• Renewal of contract between the city and the Office of Juvenile Affairs providing funding for a Community Intervention Center for juveniles and the Professional Services Agreement with the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office assigning the operation of the same. The center handled less than 450 juveniles year before last and more than 1,000 this past year, said City Manager Greg Buckley.
• Discussion of the proposed council policy on advertising. All the advertising at Love-Hatbox Field is regulated by facility use contracts and the parks and recreation director has asked the city not sell advertising, said City Attorney John Vincent.
• Appointment of Daniel Miller to the Convention and Tourism Committee, replacing Dave Davis, to serve a three-year term ending June 30, 2011.
