Cherokee polling places set for Saturday election

TAHLEQUAH — Polling places have been set for Cherokee Nation citizens to vote for tribal officials as well as a Constitutional amendment to remove federal approval from the process during the tribe’s general election on Saturday. Polls will be open on the day of the election at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.

Cherokee citizens registered to vote in the election should have received a new voter registration card, listing their district number and precinct number along with a code letter, which identifies the actual voting location for the upcoming special election.

Registered Cherokee voters can cast their ballots early in person on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Election Commission office, 22116 S. Bald Hill Road. The runoff election will be held on July 28, and registered voters have until Monday to request an absentee ballot for the runoff election.

Polling locations for District 4 are as follows:

• District 4, Muskogee County, Precinct A Voting Site, Warner Middle School, 1012 Fifth Ave., Warner.

• Precinct B Voting Site, Fort Gibson City Hall, 200 W. Popular Ave., Fort Gibson.

• Precinct C Voting Site, Okay Senior Citizen Center, 3701 E. 75th St. North, Okay.

For more information, contact the Cherokee Nation Election Commission at 458-5899. Additional information about the election is available at www.cherokee.org by clicking on the “Cherokee Election 2007” link.
