Former OU quarterback sent to jail

EUFAULA — Former University of Oklahoma quarterback Jamelle Holieway didn’t go to trial Friday on a misdemeanor drug charge — instead he went to jail on outstanding warrants.

Holieway, 41, was arrested in July for possession of marijuana after marijuana was discovered in the car he was riding in during a traffic stop.

He was scheduled for non-jury trial on the charge Friday. His attorney asked that the trial be postponed until July 16, said Scott Biggs, McIntosh County assistant district attorney.

The judge was agreeable to the continuance, but officials had checked court records and found Holieway had two outstanding warrants, both for failure to appear, Biggs said.

Holieway’s bond was set at the amount of outstanding fines in McIntosh and Haskell counties that Holieway had not paid: $503 for McIntosh County and $1,000 for Haskell County, Biggs said.

Holieway had been arrested for driving under suspension in Haskell County in March and still owed fines 2006 on a speeding charge in McIntosh County.

Holieway remained in McIntosh County Jail in lieu of bond Friday afternoon.

Holieway played at OU from 1985 to 1988 and is a two-time All-Big Eight Conference quarterback.
