Legendary British bands Yes and Asia will showcase their progressive rock style with hits like “I've Seen All Good People,” “Roundabout” and “Heat of the Moment” during a benefit concert for the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame & Museum. The performance is at 8 p.m. July 16 at the Muskogee Civic Center.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for music fans to experience the talent and musical contribution these two bands have made to our culture during more than four decades of performances," said Max Boydstun, president of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame & Museum. A portion of the proceeds will go to the OMHF.
The bands will make a stop in Muskogee as part of a 24-city tour, which began June 26 in Indio, Calif., and featured the classic line-up of guitarist Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire, and drummer Alan White. The groups have also added a new vocalist, Beniot David, and keyboard player Oliver Wakeman, who is the son of the group's Rick Wakeman.
Over a 40-year career, acclaimed British band YES, which was formed in London in 1968, has become well known for its live performances. Its music is marked by sharp dynamic contrasts, extended song lengths, abstract lyrics, and a general showcasing of instrumental prowess.
Yes has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, and it continues to add new, young fans to its following.
Yes will be joined by special guest, Asia, with Howe, a cornerstone member of both groups, performing as part of each band's set, alongside original Asia members. Asia band members are keyboardist Geoff Downes, drummer Carl Palmer, and bassist/guitarist/vocalist John Wetton.
The groups came together in the spring of 1981, and Asia's debut album exploded onto the music scene in March 1982, featuring several top 10 singles and sales exceeding 7 million copies.
Reserved-seat tickets for the concert are $55 each, plus a service charge, and are available at the Muskogee Civic Center; Reasor’s, Starship Records and Tapes, the Eufaula Food Market or by phone at (866) I GET TIX or online at GETTIX.NET.
