A Kentucky man and woman were ejected 10 feet from the motorcycle they were riding after a vehicle failed to yield from a private drive onto U.S. 62 at 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
Passenger Patty Downs, 65, of Morganfield, was admitted to Tahlequah City Hospital with an arm injury and was stable when admitted, the OHP said. A hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday afternoon that Downs remained stable, but her condition was unavailable.
Robert Downs, 64, of Morganfield, Ky., the driver of a 2006 Honda Goldwing, was treated and released from Tahlequah City Hospital for minor injuries.
The Downs were eastbound, .3 mile south of Tahlequah in Cherokee County when the accident occurred. Robert Downs took evasive action, leaving 21 feet of skid marks before laying the motorcycle onto its side. Both driver and passenger were ejected. Helmets were in use. The vehicle that failed to yield left the scene, the OHP said.
