At this year’s annual Oklahoma School for the Blind's Employee Recognition Dinner, Mary Perry of Muskogee received the OSB Employee of the Year Award. This award is arrived by a committee vote of former employees of the year and based on what's written on the nomination forms submitted by their fellow employees.
Perry is one of OSB’S newest employees, having started her career in the Food Service Department in July 2007. She transferred to a custodial position in May 2008.
“Mary is one who hasn't had the easiest beginning in her life, but has turned out to be one of the happiest individuals you will ever meet who counts her every blessing as they come along in her life,” said Karen Kizzia, OSB superintendent. “She is an employee who wants to do her very best whether cooking in the kitchen or cleaning a floor.”
Perry is one of the most positive people you will ever meet and the only one Kizzia has ever met who truly loves to clean, she said.
“She is truly supportive of our school system and is a great role model for our students,” Kizzia said. “You can usually see her humming to her own music with her iPod ear phones in her ears wherever she works. The school is truly fortunate to have Mary Perry as an employee.”
