Jurors took an hour Monday to find Kevin Ray Breneman guilty of five sex-related felonies involving a minor and recommended 100 years in prison.
The minor was an elementary student at the time of the offenses that occurred between June 1, 2006, and June 1, 2007, Muskogee County District Court records state.
“This little girl will be in prison the rest of her life because of what he did to her. Put him in prison for the rest of his life,” First Assistant District Attorney Jeff Sheridan told jurors in closing statements.
“We’re glad the jury agreed,” said Assistant District Attorney Nikki Baker Dotson, Sheridan’s co-prosecutor in the case.
Breneman, 44, of Muskogee was convicted of:
• Rape by instrumentation by use of an object to penetrate a minor child without her consent and through the use of threat of force or violence. He faces up to five years to life without parole.
• Two counts of forcible oral sodomy, each punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
• Lewd molestation, punishable by three to 20 years in prison.
• Lewd molestation/acts by forcing a child to watch pornographic videos and forcing her to re-enact scenes from such videos. The crime is punishable by three to 20 years in prison.
Jurors not only recommended stiff sentences on each count, they specifically strongly recommended the judge make each sentence consecutive to the others.
District Judge Norman Thygesen set the sentencing for July 28.
“I’m so appreciative and proud of the work” Sheridan and Baker Dotson did in the case, said District Attorney Larry Moore, “It was a long, difficult case.”
