Published August 16, 2008 09:21 pm - Commission to discuss adult business zoning Planning and zoning commissioners plan to take up the matter of whether to restrict the areas within which an adult-oriented business can set up shop.
The issue was discussed Aug. 4 but tabled due to concerns about how to define an adult-oriented business. Some commissioners said an overly broad definition might unfairly affect some businesses. The language proposed addresses “enterprises engaging in sexually oriented or explicit displays of any and all media types, whether live or pre-recorded ...” then defines 13 types of businesses that would fall within the category of an adult-oriented business. The proposed amendment would require an adult-oriented business to locate within a restricted zoning district. The F-2 zoning prohibits, among other things, locating within 300 feet of a school or church. Any amendment would require City Council approval before taking effect. Commissioners are expected to convene a public hearing on the matter at 9 a.m. Monday during its regular meeting.
