City’s finances in order, auditors find By D. E. SmootPhoenix Staff Writer Buckley said that $5.1 million difference in governmental activity expenditures and revenue is due to the costs of cleaning up after the January 2007 ice storm. Much of that expense, Buckley said, was reimbursed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency the following year.
Ward II Councilor James Gulley said the city is still awaiting reimbursement for the state’s share of ice storm recovery efforts, and the city will end up bearing a portion of those costs. Overall, Gulley said he is pleased with auditor’s findings. “I’ve been through it a couple of times and plan to look at it a little closer this weekend,” Gulley said. “But my first impression is it looks like Jean Kingston (city treasurer) is doing a good job. I think we are doing a good job watching the taxpayers’ money — that’s always been one of my top priorities.”
