If federal prosecutors get their way, a former Tahlequah attorney and his wife will be headed to jail for allegedly impeding the government’s attempt to collect back taxes from them.
The federal government has sought financial records from Nathan Young III and his wife, Carol, since March, but the couple hasn’t complied, a Justice Department tax attorney said in a motion filed Wednesday in Muskogee.
The Youngs are accused of not paying taxes for seven years dating back to 1993. A court-ordered sale of their home last year brought in $125,000, but the Youngs owe more than $400,000 to the IRS and $56,000 to the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
The Oklahoma Supreme Court disbarred Young in November, saying he paid his bills using a client’s account.
