Published September 07, 2008 06:38 pm - P.M. UPDATE: Tahlequah man dies in crash A Tahlequah man was killed in a traffic accident Sunday morning near Welling.
James Brent Berry, 54, of Tahlequah was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident about 3:16 a.m. Sunday. The accident occurred on a county road 2.1 miles south and two miles south of Tahlequah near Welling in Cherokee County, the Trooper Joe Couch reported. Berry was driving a 1999 Chrysler 300 southboud on the county road when he failed to negotiate a curve and struck an embankment, Couch reported. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its top. There was an odor of alcoholic beverages about the driver, the OHP report states. Cause of the collision was listed as unsafe speed on a curve. Berry was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected approximately three feet from where the vehicle came to rest, the report states.
