Two killed, one hurt in crashes

Two people were killed and another injured in separate crashes in Sequoyah and Haskell counties, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.

Marc Newsome, 23, of Panama was killed in a separate collision in Haskell County, the OHP states.

Alberto Antonio Ramirez, 18, of Sallisaw was flown to Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark., were he was pronounced dead at 9:04 p.m. Wednesday. Felicia Don Nunn, 17, of Muldrow was stable when she was admitted to Sparks, but her condition was not available Thursday.

Ramirez was killed and Nunn injured in a crash about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday approximately seven miles north of Muldrow. Nunn was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu westbound when Ramirez reached over and grabbed the steering wheel. The car ran off the right side of the road, struck a tree, came back onto the road where it rolled over. Ramirez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected 20 feet from the passenger side window. Nunn was wearing a seat belt, and air bags did deploy, the trooper’s report states.

Newsome died at approximately 9:25 p.m. The crash happened at Oklahoma 31 and Oklahoma 2 in Kinta.

Newsome was driving a 1998 GMC pickup westbound on Oklahoma 31, failing to yield to McCurtain Police Department. He ran off the left side of the road at a high rate of speed. He struck a parked truck on the shoulder, and his vehicle overturned. Newsome, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected and was pinned for one hour and 45 minutes before he could be freed. The vehicle was equipped with airbags, but they did not deploy.
