Published September 17, 2009 04:26 pm - P.M. UPDATE: UKB Celebration Parade scheduled for Oct. 3 TAHLEQUAH — The United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma is hosting its fifth annual Keetoowah Cherokee Celebration Parade as a part of the 59th Annual Keetoowah Cherokee Celebration.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Keetoowah Cherokee Traditions -1859-2009 – Still the Sacred Fire Burns.” Several marching bands will be performing in the parade. Members of the crowd-pleasing Shriner’s International will also be participating. The parade marshal will be Kenneth Corn, Oklahoma Senator from District 4, which includes Sequoyah and Le Flore counties. He was elected as Caucus Chair for the Senate Democrats in November 2008. He previously served in the House from 1998-2002. Prize money will be awarded for the best floats, and the first place winners will receive $200, second place winners will receive $150, and third place winners will receive $100.
