Two teens were killed and several others were injured in weekend accidents, according to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Killed were:
• Shane Watie, 19, of Kinta.
• David Star, 19, of Cowlington.
Injured were:
• Latonna Leyva, 18, of Ada.
• Jessica Feldmeier, 19, of Keota.
• Robert Hurt II, 17, of Ada.
• Surella Nimsey, 29, of Park Hill.
• Darlene Ramos, 60, of Park Hill.
The OHP reported Watie and Star died in a crash about 1:40 a.m. Sunday on a county road about 3.5 miles north of Keota.
Troopers say Watie’s driving was impaired because of alcohol consumption. They say Watie lost control of his car in foggy conditions, overcorrected and struck several trees in a ditch, ejecting three of his four passengers.
Watie and Star, who were not ejected, died at the scene.
Leyva, a passenger in Watie’s 2000 Pontiac GrandAm, was taken to an Arkansas hospital in critical condition.
Feldmeier and Hurt were taken to a hospital in Stigler for treatment.
Nimsey and Ramos were injured in a crash about 4:15 p.m. Saturday on Welling Road 11 miles south of Tahlequah in Cherokee County.
Nimsey was driving a 1991 Chevrolet pickup north on a county road and failed to negotiate a curve, the OHP reported. The vehicle left the roadway on the right, went into a ditch and struck a tree.
The pickup rolled one-half time, ejecting four of the five passengers in the vehicle, including Ramos, the OHP said.
Troopers reported Nimsey’s driving was impaired because of having consumed alcohol. No seatbelts were in use.
Nimsey was admitted to Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa with head and trunk internal injuries, according to the OHP.
Ramos was admitted to St. John Medical Center in critical condition with head, trunk internal and leg injuries, the OHP reported.
