Delays expected on Smith Ferry Road

A road resurfacing project is scheduled to begin today along Smith Ferry Road between Country Club Road and East 55th Street South.
Muskogee County Commissioner Gene Wallace, District 1, said the two-mile paving project is the first road project in his district to be funded by the quarter-cent sales tax approved by voters. Wallace said the Cherokee Nation also contributed to the project.
Road crews are scheduled to begin construction at 9 a.m. today, allowing morning commuters a chance to get to work. Once construction begins, Wallace said, Smith Ferry Road will be narrowed to one lane in the areas being paved.
Wallace said the project is expected to take three days to complete. Motorists are being encouraged to find alternate routes until the project is completed.
