Manhunt on for Wagoner County jail escapee

By Donna Hales
Phoenix Staff Writer

Three law enforcement agencies were engaged in a manhunt Wednesday to find a Wagoner County Jail inmate who escaped away from a road work crew.

Mike Moore, 38, of Porter was working on a non-violent offender work crew at 191st Street and Oklahoma 72 near Haskell Wednesday when he walked away, said Wagoner County Undersheriff Mark Day.

Wagoner County Court records reflect Moore had two pending drug cases in Wagoner County District Court. Preliminary hearings in both cases had been scheduled for Sept. 17 but were delayed until 9 a.m.Oct. 1.

Jail personnel said Moore had no record of violence.

Wagoner County deputies and reserves began searching for Moore immediately after he was reported missing at 11:06 a.m. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol, search-and-rescue dogs and all reserve officers and deputies from the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office were searching through a two-mile area cordoned off around the escape site, Day said. An OHP plane was conducting overhead surveillance.

Shortly before 5 p.m., there had been no sightings of Moore, according to the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office.
