Published September 25, 2008 10:13 pm - Checotah officials investigating bomb threat CHECOTAH — Local and federal law enforcers are investigating a bomb threat that shut down the Wal-Mart Supercenter for about five hours late Wednesday.
Checotah Police Chief Andy Blizzard said the store was evacuated while the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s bomb squad and its search dogs swept the premises. The search turned up no explosives, and nobody was hurt. Blizzard said authorities continued to track leads in an effort to identify the caller, who made contact with authorities more than once during the night, which began about 10 p.m. Wednesday and concluded about 3 a.m. Thursday. “We were on the phone several times,” Blizzard said. “It wasn’t your typical threat we received, it was rather elaborate.”
