The towns of Haskell and Boynton have been awarded Capital Improvement Planning grants to assist with community development, said Sen. Earl Garrison, D-Muskogee, and Rep. Jerry Shoemake, D-Morris.
Haskell received an $18,000 CIP grant while Boynton was awarded a $12,000 grant.
"I am so pleased for these towns," Garrison said. "Haskell and Boynton have a wonderful opportunity to use these grants to build civic capacity, address crisis management, and plan for and prioritize infrastructure improvements."
The purpose of the CIP awards is to provide funding for rural communities to undertake long-term planning activities. By utilizing the resources of Eastern Oklahoma Development District, the communities conduct a comprehensive inventory of all their governmentally-owned assets and develops a five year capital improvement plan.
Additionally, the program involves the digitized mapping of these assets on a Geographic Information System.
Shoemake noted that nearly 2,300 local residents will benefit from the funding.
