Muskogee deputies seize meth

By Donna Hales
Phoenix Staff Writer

Muskogee County deputies followed leads from informants to take down what they believe to be a meth lab at an eastside apartment.

Arrested Friday was Amy Smith, 36, at her apartment at 2222 Haskell Boulevard, Apartment 213, said Muskogee County Sheriff's Deputy Jimmy Williams.

During a traffic stop, a canine indicated there were drugs in the vehicle, and officers found a box of what they believe to be narcotics as well as items typically used to manufacture methamphetamine. They then executed a warrant on Smith’s apartment.

“You could smell the chemical odor in the apartment,” Williams said. “We called in a HAZMAT team after finding about seven ounces, which would be worth from $1,800 to $6,000, depending on the purity.”

“It probably was untapped (pure),” Muskogee County Sheriff Charles Pearson said.

Williams said it had been made with a cold cook process and was in the refrigerator drying out.

Smith had been living in the apartment about a year, he said.

Neighbors thanked law enforcement for making the bust and said they had wanted to call police, but were scared of some of the people frequenting the apartment, Williams said.

Pearson said this arrest is an extension of Operation Sixkiller, a drug sweep executed by federal, state and local agencies.

He said a “huge” amount of ephedrine has hit the Muskogee area in the last month, and there has been a lot of drug cooking.
