Published October 06, 2009 04:48 pm - P.M. UPDATE: Special event at Arrowhead Mall highlights domestic violence To commemorate October as domestic violence awareness month, Women in Safe Homes Inc., is kicking off the month Monday by hanging purple ribbons on the light poles downtown on Broadway.
On a monthly average, WISH provided services to 28 women and 35 children. Oklahoma is ranked fourth in the nation for women murdered by men. To honor those individuals who were murdered by current or former intimate partners, WISH will be displaying The Oklahoma Silent Witness Silhouettes at Arrowhead Mall from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 29. The Oklahoma Silent Witness Initiative honors more than 200 individuals ranging in age from 3 months to 77 years. Men, women and children are represented as each died violently at the hand of someone who was supposed to love them.
