Hinder to play hall of fame show

Phoenix Staff Reports

Oklahoma rock band Hinder will perform a special acoustic set of their hits Nov. 1 at the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame Concert at the Muskogee Civic Center.

The group will be honored with the Rising Star Award during the annual induction ceremony that night.

Hinder is comprised of Oklahoma City band members Austin Winkler (vocals), Joe “Blower” Garvey (guitar), Mark King (guitar), Mike Rodden (bass), and Cody Hanson (drums).

“This is definitely a high point in our career,” Winkler said. “It’s fantastic to be included in this select group of fellow Oklahomans.”

Formed in 2001, Hinder is known for its swaggering anthems and honest ballads that touch a nerve without resorting to irony, rage or depression. The second release on its album, “Extreme Behavior”, a song titled “Lips of an Angel,” reached the Top Ten on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles Chart and Top Five on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart.

The band, known for its four-part harmony and twin lead guitars, is finishing a tour of Australia this month.

Hinder will release a limited edition CD on Tuesday featuring all the songs from its album “Extreme Behavior”, plus bonus versions and the new rock smash, “Born to be Wild.” This limited edition run will contain all new packaging and photos. The DVD includes the songs performed live, plus all their videos including Born to Be Wild, and backstage footage.

Oklahoma artists to be inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame this year include: Hoyt Axton, Mae Boren Axton, Cal Smith, Sammi Smith, and Tommy Crook.

The concert, headlining Three Dog Night, begins at 8 p.m.
