Wagoner County woman killed in wreck
Phoenix Staff Writers
One person was killed and four others injured in separate collisions reported by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The fatality collision was reported at 2:48 a.m. Tuesday.
Trooper Zachary Woods said Natasha Marie Byrd, 18, of Coweta was driving west on Oklahoma 51 just west of Clear Creek Road in Cherokee County when she apparently fell asleep at the wheel. The 1997 Jeep Cherokee she was driving veered off the north side of the highway, clipping several trees before sliding sideways into a tree.
Byrd was pinned inside the Jeep for about 25 minutes before she was removed by Spring Valley Fire and Rescue workers. Byrd was pronounced dead at the scene with head and internal trunk injuries, the report states.
Two Stigler residents were injured at about 7:45 p.m. Monday when the vehicle they were in struck a second vehicle that, according to the OHP report, failed to yield at a stop sign at the U.S. 59 and Oklahoma 9 junction.
Trooper Shauna Caldwell of the LeFlore County Detachment said Roger Snyder, 44, and Juanita Snyder, 47, were traveling west on Oklahoma 9 when the 1997 Dodge they were driving struck a 1995 Ford driven by Tammy Sims, 39, of Poteau.
According to OHP, Sims was admitted at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark., where she was being treated for head, arm and leg injuries.
A passenger, Dennis Sims, 44, of Poteau also was admitted at Sparks with internal and external trunk injuries.
Roger Snyder was being treated Tuesday for internal and external trunk injuries at Sparks. Juanita Snyder also sustained internal and external trunk injuries. Conditions of the four injured in the crash were not available.
According to the OHP, seat belts were in use by all occupants of the vehicles in both collisions.
