Published November 10, 2008 09:38 am - BREAKING NEWS: Man commits suicide in Checotah Wal-Mart A former employee of the Checotah Wal-Mart committed suicide inside the store Monday morning, said Andy Blizzard of the Checotah Police Department.
About 7:30 a.m., a customer called police to report a shooter in the store. The name of the former employee has not been released, pending notification of family. Blizzard said the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Witnesses said the man spoke to a few friends when he arrived and did not seem to be angry. He had not worked in the store for approximately a year, but left on good terms to take a job elsewhere. The store was cleared of most employees and all shoppers. Blizzard said they visited with his former girlfriend. He had been employed in Oklahoma City as a gunsmith, she told police. An investigator from the Oklahoma State Medical Examiners Office arrived about 9:35 a.m.
