A.M. UPDATE: Taiwanese delegation visits NSU

TAHLEQUAH — A delegation of students and professionals from Tulsa’s sister city, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, toured Northeastern State University and met with university dignitaries on Wednesday, as part of a tour of Oklahoma.

Wenzoa Ursuline College of Languages President Bosco Wen-Ruey Lee, 10 students, and several administrators, along with Henry Huang, chief of International Affairs for the Kaohsiung city government and Julie Chang, an official in the office of International Affairs, toured the region as part of a trip sponsored by Tulsa Global Alliance.

During their trip to NSU, the delegates met with NSU President Dr. Don Betz, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Dalton Bigbee, Director of International Studies Dr. Richard L. Carhart, College of Liberal Arts Dean Dr. Paul Westbrook, College of Education Dean Dr. Kay Grant, and Cherokee Language Instructor Harry Oosahwee.

“It is a real honor to have you here on our campus,” said Betz, who has twice traveled to Kaohsiung. “One of the goals of our institution is to become more international, for our students and faculty to live and work abroad and to have a global perspective.”

Betz and Lee discussed the possibility of a student and faculty exchange program between the two universities to provide international study opportunities to both students and faculty.

During their trip to Oklahoma, the group also toured a number of city and county services in Tulsa, attended Kids’ World International Festival at the QuikTrip Center at Tulsa Expo Square, and toured the Cherokee Heritage Center.
