Couple sues Muskogee Community Hospital
Suit alleges water flow change from hospital’s construction has caused flooding on property

By Donna Hales
Phoenix Staff Writer

A Muskogee couple who lives near the Muskogee Community Hospital under construction off Harris Road is suing the corporation for changing water flow in the area.

The suit filed in Muskogee County District Court by Stanley and Ivy Slader, who reside at 3020 Elbow Lane, alleges the water flow change has caused flooding on the couple’s property. They claim property damage and consequential damage for clean-up from flood waters.

The Sladers are seeking in excess of $10,000, attorney fees and costs and for any other relief to which they may be entitled.

“I just want them to do the right thing,” Stanley Slader said.

He declined to say what the right thing would be or to comment further, saying he had strict orders from attorney Brett Smith to direct all inquiries to Smith.

Smith could not be reached for comment.

Mark Roberts, a major principal in MCH and spokesman for the group of Muskogee physicians who are building the new hospital, said he had not been served with a copy of the suit, didn’t know anything about it and did not want to comment.

Slader complained several months ago that when it rained, mud from the hospital building site covered the floor of a building behind his home. For years, Slader has used the building as a storage facility, he said.

Slader said earlier that several homeowners in the vicinity had received flood damage from the site when and after it rained.
