Grand jury picked in teen’s death

From Phoenix staff reports

Six women and nine men were chosen Monday to serve on a Wagoner County grand jury investigating the May 14, 2006, death a Broken Arrow teen.

The body of Jarret Clark was found floating at Wahoo Bay on Fort Gibson Lake near Okay. Officials ruled his death a drowning but his family has not accepted that ruling.

They took their case to a state multi-county grand jury, which did not return indictments. They then gathered more than 8,000 on a petition calling for the Wagoner County grand jury.

The 15 jurors selected Monday includes three alternate jurors.

District Judge Bruce Sewell, who is presiding over the grand jury said he has been given no indication as to how long the panel might meet. A large number of people have been listed as potential witnesses but all of them may not be called, he said.

Rogers County District Attorney Gene Haynes is conducting the probe.

Jurors toured the Wagoner County Detention Center Monday afternoon and are expected to begin hearing testimony Tuesday, court officials said.

The scope of the grand jury could be expanded if jurors have other matters they want to consider, officials said.
