Candi Washington didn’t know it at the time, but when she went to Tumble In Furniture and Appliances store on Dec. 11 to buy a washer and dryer, she also got the that week’s winning ticket in the Magic Holiday Giveaway.
Because of the size of her purchase, she received a large roll of tickets, and the winner was the first one.
Tuesday morning, she went to the Greater Muskogee Area Chamber of Commerce to pick up her $500 check.
“Several days later after I was at Tumble In, I came home, and my husband Paul told me,” she said. “He said, ‘You won’t believe this, but we just got a call and we got the winning ticket!’ My first reaction was ‘Woo hoo!’”
A practical person, Washington, 37, has already decided to use her winnings to help pay for the washer and dryer. She said she has come close to winning the Magic Holiday Giveaway before.
“Every other year I would be off by one number,” she said.
Washington and her husband have a 16-month-old daughter who has gotten her own enjoyment out of the new washer and dryer. She likes looking at her reflection in the shiny surface and watching the spinning action.
“We’re thoroughly pleased,” Washington said. “This will help us out a lot this Christmas season by taking down a bill. Its’ very nice. I will continue to try to shop at the right places.”
