Man facing cruelty charge waives hearing

A man charged with felony cruelty to animals after his dog was found malnourished and wounded waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday.

Jason Carnell Wright, 30, is charged with animal cruelty because of the condition of the American pit bull terrier he turned over to the Muskogee Animal Shelter in December.

The dog, since named Phoenix by shelter staff, has been nursed back to health and adopted.

Wright was released on $10,000 bond in December.

He returns to court for a district court arraignment at 1:30 p.m. July 11.
