Area man faces fed explosive charge

A Tahlequah man was in federal court Wednesday to be charged with being a felon in possession of an explosive, according to a media release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The criminal complaint against Jeremy Ramirez, 27, states that on or about April 19, in Cherokee County, Ramirez knowingly possessed an explosive after former conviction of a felony.

Ramirez is alleged to have been injured in an explosion at a Tahlequah residence when he attempted to wire his cellular telephone to a blasting cap. Ramirez is alleged to have possessed the blasting caps after being convicted of a felony.

Ramirez was remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service.
