A.M. UPDATE: Names of officers involved in shooting released


— The Muskogee Police Department just released the names of the two officers involved in

Thursday’s officer involved shooting near South Fourth and Elgin streets.  

Officer Joe Poffel initiated the traffic stop and discharged his weapon, striking the suspect. Poffel is a six-year officer with MPD.  

Officer Wesley Biles was the backing officer on the traffic stop whom the suspect attempted to disarm, according to a media release. He is a seven-year officer with MPD.

Both officers have been placed on routine administrative leave, Cpl. Michael Mahan said in the release.

Thomas Estes is the suspect who was shot, Mahan said.. He is currently in a Tulsa hospital. OSBI is

conducting the investigation into the shooting.

Marvin Green, 22, was the driver of the vehicle that had been reported stolen, Mahan said. Green has been booked into the Muskogee County/City Detention Facility on a complaint of receiving stolen

property.

A third female passenger in the vehicle was questioned and released.
