Trial ordered in alleged murder plot

Witness says woman discussed ‘offing’ boyfriend with him, others

A Muskogee woman accused of “soliciting assistance” from three men to kill her boyfriend will stand trial.

Special District Judge Robin Adair ordered Kenna Lee Morrison, 31, bound over for trial following testimony during a preliminary hearing Monday.

Morrison, 31, who is being held without bond at the Muskogee County-City Detention Facility, is accused of soliciting the death of Dewey Easom.

Michael Gilmore of Wagoner testified he contacted Muskogee police following a conversation with Morrison, during which she brought up the subject of “offing the old man.”

Other individuals were at the residence when the conversation was conducted, Gilmore said. He testified that he was one of the individuals whom Morrison asked to help “get rid of him.”

Gilmore testified Morrison discussed “getting his gun” and making it look as if someone had broken into the home, and also mentioned death could be caused by drugs.

Gilmore said he and Morrison were “friends through a friend” and that he had known her for about a year.

Muskogee police investigator Rob Frazier testified the investigation included interviewing Morrison and several other witnesses, plus reviewing recordings of conversations with Morrison and other individuals.

“I believe it was more than just a plan,” Frazier testified. He added he believed Morrison wanted Easom’s veteran’s benefits and “insurance money.”

Frazier also testified that Easom, who is in his mid-60s, was upset but “wasn’t really surprised” when he was informed of the investigation underway. He also told Frazier that Morrison had taken “some of his money.”

Felony charges of solicitation for murder in the first degree were filed Oct. 1.

District Court arraignment for Morrison is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 6, court records state.
