Cherokee foundation selects scholarship recipients


— The Cherokee Nation Foundation has selected 32 scholarship recipients for the 2012-2013 academic school year, states a media release.

Students were selected after a thorough evaluation of academic achievement, financial need and cultural and community involvement. The foundation awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships this year.

Area students receiving scholarships include:

• Sierra Leach, Muskogee High School, Gammon Award.

• Jake Phillips, Keys High School, Gammon Award.

• Ashley Roach, Sequoyah High School, Cherokee Promise Scholarship.

• Mikah Campbell, Sequoyah High School, James R. Upton Memorial Award.

• Candessa Tehee, University of Oklahoma, Marquis Award.

• Corey Still, University of Oklahoma, Gammon Award.

This year’s recipients included 23 high school students and nine university students, representing all of the Cherokee Nation’s 14 counties and citizens at large.
