OWRB approves $8M loan to Wagoner

The Oklahoma Water Resources Board approved Tuesday an $8 million low-interest loan that will enable the city of Wagoner to enlarge its water treatment plant.

Joe Freeman, chief of OWRB’s financial assistance division, said the loan will save consumers $2.4 million in interest during the 20-year debt repayment period. Freeman said the loan will be secured with a lien on Wagoner’s utility revenues and perhaps a mortgage on the city’s water and sewer systems.

The Wagoner Public Works Authority provides potable water to almost 3,400 customers, including Wagoner County Rural Water District 6. Raw water pumped from Fort Gibson Lake is processed at a 3 million-gallon-a-day, rapid-sand filtration treatment plant.

Proceeds from the loan will be used to expand plant capacity to 4 million gallons a day. The project will include construction of a new process building, clarifiers, filters and water pumps, a chemical feed system, modifications to the residual lagoons, and the rehabilitation of the raw-water intake lines.
