P.M. UPDATE: City councilor faces misdemeanor DUI charge

A Muskogee city councilor faces a misdemeanor charge of driving while under the influence of alcohol in Wagoner County District Court, records show.

Court records show Ward III Councilor Derrick Reed was arrested during the early morning hours of Nov. 17 while driving toward Muskogee on U.S. 69. Reed, who has pleaded not guilty, failed to respond to inquiries about the arrest.

The arresting officer, a trooper with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, stated in an affidavit Reed was driving on the shoulder of the highway at a low rate of speed. Reed allegedly swerved onto the highway and back to the shoulder before the trooper stopped him.

The trooper alleges in court documents the he “noticed the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage radiating from inside Mr. Reed’s vehicle.” When Reed was asked to get out of the car, the trooper noticed Reed use the vehicle “for stability and support.”

Reed, who allegedly failed sobriety tests conducted at the scene, subsequently was arrested for driving under the influence, transporting an open container of liquor and driving with a suspended license.
