Candidates seek Cherokee County school board seats

— Three school districts in Cherokee County will hold elections Tuesday for school board seats.

Voting began Friday and continues with in-person absentee voting from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the election board.

Precinct polling will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Meet the candidates


Candidates for Woodall Board of Education, Office 3.

Tony Delmedico (incumbent)

PROFESSION: Sheet metal fabrication. Retired from Army National Guard.

REASON FOR RUNNING: Delmedico said he was raised in the Woodall community, attending eight years at the schools where both his children also attended.

“I take great pride in seeing that school succeed,” Delmedico said. “I want to give back to my community and the kids in my community. I want them to get a quality education in a safe and secure environment.”

Gary Hawkins

PROFESSION: Retired from teaching 31 years. Taught science at Woodall Public Schools from 1996 to 2011.

REASON FOR RUNNING: Hawkins said serving on the school board is a good way to get back to helping kids.

“I just feel like with my background that I have knowledge that will be helpful. I know what teachers want and I know what kids need,” Hawkins said. “I also want to be there to represent the taxpayers.”
