Seventh arrested in burglary string

Police: Stolen property, drug paraphernalia found in travel trailer

— Another person connected to more than a year’s worth of area burglaries was arrested Thursday in Warner.

Warner Police Department Assistant Chief Steve Lane said Charles Phillips Jr., 48, was arrested Thursday afternoon at his residence in the 400 block of Fifth Avenue.

Lane said stolen property, as well as drug paraphernalia, scales and baggies were found inside Phillips’ trailers. Phillips was living in a small travel trailer after his other trailer had burned in a fire more than a month ago.

“We found some of the stolen property in the burned-up trailer,” Lane said.

Phillips was booked into the Muskogee County/City Detention Center on complaints of:

• Knowingly concealing stolen property.

• Possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Possession of controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute.

Phillips is the seventh person arrested in what authorities say is a burglary ring that’s been in operation for more than a year and a half.

Six people — Brian Thomas Fraley, 26, Kurt Nelson Beatty, 43, Joseph Daphton Rucker, 24, Megan Weston, Ashley Wright, 24, and Earl Wayne Butler, 29 — were arrested earlier this week in Warner. Beatty, the only suspect charged so far, was charged Thursday in McIntosh County with two counts of second-degree burglary.

Lane said law enforcers met with Phillips and consented to a search of his trailers after authorities did a “knock and talk” at his residence.

They found a plate inside the travel trailer with a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine, Lane said. That substance was send to the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation to confirm the field test.

Lane asked for the public to continue phoning in burglary tips to law enforcement.

“That’s what’s helping us get this property back,” Lane said. “Without these good, solid tips, it’s not real easy to do.”
