Cookson man gets six months in fed prison

BOYNTON — A Cookson man was ordered Monday to spend six months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to a media release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

John Hardy Bryant, 38, also was ordered to serve an additional six months on home detention to be followed by three years of supervised release.

The charge arose from an investigation by the Tahlequah Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Bryant was indicted in November and pleaded guilty in December.

The indictment alleged that on or about Aug. 4, Bryant, having been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, did knowingly possess a .22-caliber bolt action rifle and Remington .22 short-caliber ammunition.

Bryant will remain in federal custody until he is taken to prison.
