Okmulgee man killed in pickup crash

An Okmulgee man was killed in a single-vehicle collision just after midnight on Friday, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The report states Jimmie Lee Smithson, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene by Wagoner Emergency Medical Service at approximately 7:30 a.m. Friday. Smithson was driving a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup southbound on Oklahoma 16 1.5 miles south of Wagoner when, for an unknown reason, he lost control and ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle rolled twice, ejecting Smithson. The vehicle was equipped with seat belts, which were not in use. The vehicle was also equipped with airbags, which did not deploy, according to the report.
