Man shot to face gun charge

A Muskogee man recovering from two gunshot wounds is expected to face firearm possession charges today, a prosecutor said.

Dominique Wright allegedly pulled a gun during a dispute Tuesday, said Muskogee County Assistant District Attorney Tim King.

Wright, 19, was shot in the back and lower left leg, allegedly by Tevin Daquan Adams, police said.

A condition for Wright was not available Thursday at EASTAR Health System.

Adams, 19, was charged Thursday with felony possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction.

Wright will also be charged with felony possession of a firearm after a former juvenile adjudication, King said. Charges against Adams and Wright are essentially the same, he added.

“Both of the parties had guns, and both were shooting at each other,” King said.

An affidavit states Adams and Richard Johnson, 19, approached Wright in their vehicle around Ninth and Market streets. “All (three) suspects were shooting,” according to the affidavit. “Wright was shooting at Adams and Johnson. Adams and Johnson were shooting at Wright.”

A firearm found at the scene is believed to be Wright’s, the affidavit states. A spent shell casing “observed in plain view” was allegedly found in Adams’ vehicle.

Johnson and Adams were arrested Tuesday, though Johnson was released Wednesday without charges. King said sufficient evidence was not presented to charge him.

Adams was released Thursday on $45,000 bond.

Adams is expected in court at 10 a.m. Oct. 28 for a preliminary hearing.
