Blanca Casale’s Advanced Placement Spanish Language and Culture students Alejandro Ascencio, Roxanna Martinez, Joanna Santoyo, and Andrea Ramos built this Altar de Muertos as part of a class project celebrating the Day of the Dead. The Day of the Dead is celebrated in Mexico and around the world in other cultures on Oct. 31, Nov. 1 and Nov. 2. It is a holiday that brings families and friends together to pray for and remember loved ones who have died. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves to present these as gifts.
