McIntosh County woman's death under investigation

McIntosh County and state law enforcers are investigating the death of a woman who was found Thursday in her home by a relative.

Sheriff Kevin Ledbetter said details about the woman’s death remained sketchy Thursday night and stopped short of describing the woman’s death as a homicide.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation investigators, however, were called in to process the scene.

“We’ve got a body out there on Texanna Road, but at this time we are all scattered out and haven’t had time to regroup,” Ledbetter said. “It was a female at her residence — one of the relatives discovered the body at her home.”

Ledbetter said he needed to confirm proper notification of the woman’s death was made before he would release her name. He also withheld details regarding the nature of any obvious injuries until investigators had a chance to meet and discuss their findings.

The discovery of the woman’s body was reported to the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office at 1:13 p.m. Thursday. OSBI crime scene investigators remained on the scene into the evening Thursday.

Ledbetter said investigators also were checking out leads at a secondary site during their search for evidence, but he declined to elaborate.
