Individuals can be served a three-hour, three-course meal and help students learn about the business world through a Junior Achievement fundraiser.
The second “Rougher Restaurant Crawl,” starts at 6 p.m. at Northeastern State University’s Muskogee campus’ east parking lot. Participants will ride a bus to three sites:
• St. Joseph Catholic Church for appetizers by Muskogee’s Momma C, Cassandra Gaines.
• Jimmy’s Egg for entrees provided by owner Dustin Van Voast.
• Dessert Girl’s Bakery Cafe for dessert.
Tickets are $25 per person.
“This event is a ‘friend-raiser,’ raising awareness to remind Muskogee we are definitely in the community,” said Brian Jackson, Junior Achievement Development manager. “Each business serves as an example of entrepreneurship, one of the three pillars of Junior Achievement.”
Junior Achievement served 1,968 students in the Muskogee school district this past school year.
Last year, the “crawl” raised around $1,000 to help sponsor 33 students.
“The money raised will be used for curriculum cost and training of volunteers,” Jackson said.
Twenty-six Muskogee businesses and organizations provided 85 classroom volunteers last year.
“It supports Muskogee Public Schools and gives the students an opportunity to gain experience,” said Wren Stratton, Junior Achievement advisory board member.
There will be more than $500 in door prizes to be given away during the event.
“All of this is donated, anything from the parking lot to the transportation, 100 percent of the proceeds go to help J.A. in Muskogee,” Jackson said.
“What we know is a lot of young adults don’t know how the business world works,” Stratton said. “Junior Achievement through different levels of curriculum fulfills an obligation that we turn people loose with some financial literacy.”
Volunteers go into Muskogee classrooms to teach students financial education and life skills.
“It’s all about economic achievement, starting an early age, and that what Junior Achievement is letting us do,” Stratton said.
