Illinois River restrictions hinge on rainfall

— The Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission updated its forecast for Illinois River enthusiasts who plan to visit during the Memorial Day weekend.

OSRC Administrator Ed Fite said that unless more rain falls during the next 24 hours, Illinois River Area commercial outfitters will operate at the following levels:

• Today, all commercial outfitters will offer rafting, and some operations will offer canoeing and kayaking services. Floating options will be limited for first-time and novice floaters and children 10 and younger.

• On Sunday, all outfitters plan to offer rafting, and most also will provide canoeing and kayaking services. Some operators may limit floating options for children 10 years and younger.

• On Monday, all commercial outfitters will offer rafting, canoeing and kayaking services. Some operators may limit floating options for children 10 and younger.

Fite encouraged visitors to wear personal flotation devices while wading, swimming and floating in the river.
