Cherokees’ Angel Tree program to start

Applications will be accepted Oct. 22 through Nov. 9

— The Cherokee Nation is taking applications for its Angel Tree program at various locations starting Oct. 22 and continuing through Nov. 9.

The tribe’s Angel Tree program ensures that about 1,500 Cherokee children from low-income families within the 14-county area receive clothing and gifts for Christmas.

Parents applying must meet monthly income guidelines of no more than $1,692 for a family of three and $2,018 for a family of four.

Parents must bring proof of income for all household members older than 18, each child’s Cherokee Nation citizenship “blue card,” proof of address, children’s clothing sizes and one or two reasonably priced gift ideas.

Ornaments will be displayed on Christmas trees at W.W. Hastings Hospital and at the tribe’s W.W. Keeler Complex that contain the wish list of a child, age newborn to 16.

Information: (918) 266-5626, ext. 7720 or (918) 458-6900.

Angel Tree applications will be taken from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the following locations:
