Habitat building 35th home in Muskogee

Habitat for Humanity of Muskogee is beginning construction for its 35th home built since 1990.

The single-family, three-bedroom home is being built for the Frazier family with the support of corporate partners, individual donors and volunteers who will construct the house.

Muskogee Habitat for Humanity coordinates all aspects of the build to keep the home affordable. The new homeowners will purchase the home with a low down payment and a zero-interest mortgage, held by the non-profit; this model allows purchasers who earn 30 percent to 50 percent of the area median income to qualify for the program.

While construction on the home will last approximately six months, the Frazier family has already completed more than 150 hours of “sweat equity” for the non-profit. The Habitat for Humanity model of home ownership requires the purchasing family to provide 200 hours of volunteer work . To date, the Fraziers have been logging hours at the Muskogee ReStore.
