Three people were injured in a collision on U.S. 69 one-tenth of a mile north of Oklahoma 51B in Wagoner County, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
Emily Apple, 74, of Richmond, Va., and Kenneth Adams, 76, of Newport News, Va., were taken to EASTAR Health System. Apple was stable when she was admitted with leg injuries. Adams was treated and released. Mark Konopka, 40, of Muskogee was treated at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa and released.
According to the trooper’s report, the collision happened at approximately 7:25 p.m. Saturday. Konopka was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, and Adams was driving a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country van. Both were southbound. Konopka, traveling at high speed, ran into the back of the van. The truck ran off the left side of the road and came to rest in the northbound lanes. The van ran off the right side of the road. Both Adams and Apple were wearing seat belts. OHP was investigating if Konopka was wearing one. Airbags deployed in both vehicles. The cause of the collision was because Konopka was driving under the influence of alcohol, the report states.
