Shotgun in auto leads to arrest

It’s found during traffic stop after threat reported

— A Muskogee man was arrested for allegedly possessing a sawed-off shotgun Sunday morning after a 911 caller said the man threatened someone with the gun at a gas station, a police official confirmed.

Officers pulled over a Ford Expedition matching the description of the vehicle about 1:15 a.m. Sunday, said Police Cpl. Michael Mahan.

When officers saw the sawed-off shotgun in the Expedition’s passenger compartment, a passenger in the vehicle, Nathanqune Savage, 37, said the shotgun belonged to him, Mahan said.

A second officer arriving at the traffic stop in the IHOP parking lot on U.S. 69 found a chrome handgun in the IHOP driveway, but no one saw how the gun got there, Mahan said.

The female driver of the Expedition was released, and a second male passenger was arrested on a public intoxication complaint, he said.

Savage was booked into the Muskogee County/City Detention Facility on a felony complaint of possession of a sawed-off shotgun and a complaint of possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, according to a jail spokeswoman.
