Man sought in slaying arrested

OSBI sought Schneider for questioning in slaying of NSU professor

A man wanted for questioning in the slaying of a Tahlequah professor has been taken in to custody after more than eight days on the run. The woman on the run with him has also been arrested, according to media releases from the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation.

Joshua Schneider, 33, was wanted on two felony warrants out of Tulsa County and wanted by the OSBI for questioning about the death of Tiffany Maher, 38.

Maher, a Northeastern State University professor, was found dead in her Tahlequah home in May. No cause or manner of death for Maher has been released.

Schneider eluded police in a pursuit in Tulsa on July 18, when he abandoned his car, left his 2-year-old child inside and went on the run with a woman described as his girlfriend, 37-year-old Heather Black.

Black turned herself in Saturday afternoon, and Schneider was caught soon after, the release states.

Tulsa Police used search dogs and a helicopter in the area near 91st Street and U.S. 169 this afternoon and located Schneider within minutes of Black turning herself in, the release says.

Schneider’s bonds on his existing warrants, one for false declaration of ownership of property and one for being in violation of the Oklahoma Sex Offender Registry Act, were set at $100,000 each

Tulsa County District Court records indicate additional charges have been filed against Schneider and Black.

Schneider now faces charges of child neglect and eluding a police officer, with $25,000 bond on the neglect charge and $1,000 bond on eluding.

Black was also charged with child neglect Thursday and the warrant carried a $25,000 bond, according to court records.
