River commission winners both experienced

One incumbent and a former commissioner were elected Tuesday to four-year at-large terms on the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission.

With only 39 ballots of a possible 233 cast in the election, Archie “Trey” Peyton III was elected to a second term as commissioner. David Pickle, who served as a scenic rivers commissioner from 1981 to 1997, received the second highest total of votes in the field of six.

OSRC Administrator Ed Fite said that if no challenges to the election are filed by the close of the business day Friday, both Peyton and Pickle will be sworn in during the commission’s Feb. 18 business meeting.

The 12-member commission is a state agency that oversees three of the state’s six scenic rivers. The commission was created in 1977, seven years after the passage of the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Act.
